Over the last few weeks I’ve been going to watch the Houston Texans play their home games. I’ve had sideline access prior to kick off and press box access during the game. I’ve also been to the locker rooms after the games and attended coaches media conferences.
If you have never been to a game in person there are a few things I would like to share. This will be the first in a series of posts about NFL games, The Texans, their opponents, how the media covers the game and other observations of the action from somebody who has played the game and always wanted to get close to the action in the NFL.
The pre-game rituals the teams go through are remarkably uniform. They are almost exactly the same as when I played football at the college level. Considering the diversity of coaches, their backgrounds, their styles and the way some teams struggle at the start of games I am surprised coaches don’t push the boat out a little and try their own thing in this regard. One thing every team I’ve watched could do better – stretching. I would love to talk to the Texans coaches about this one day.
